
MINUTES OF SDDTA GENERAL BOARD MEETING DECEMBER 16, 2008
Next meeting is a General board meeting Jan.16, 2009, 5:30pm at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, prior to the SDDTA Annual Dinner and Awards Banquet
I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7pm by President Geoff Griffin. Members present were: Larry Belinsky, Fred Circo, Andrew Cretella, Don Daniels, Virginia Glass, Geoff Griffin, M.A. Hillier, Carol Jory, Steve Kappes, Sandie Kindred, Roz King, Jim Lackritz, Anne Podney, Bill Rennie, Anne Russ, Susan Delos Santos, Sherman Schneller, Suella Steel, Lesley Waite and Tiffany Worst.
II. MINUTES: It was MSP to accept the minutes of Nov. 11, 2008.
III. PRESIDENTS REPORT:
a. The 2009 USTA Community Funding Grant application is available online and due by Jan. 30, 2009.
b. Geoff is concentrating efforts to promote more tennis in the community colleges.
c. It was MSP to add Anne Podney, Larry Belinsky and Steve Kappes to the Executive board.
IV. TREASURER’S REPORT: It was MSP to accept the treasurer’s report.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. Activities: The annual dinner is at capacity with a waiting list.
B. Awards: The recipients are:
Female Player of the Year: Mimi Loucks
Male Player of the Year: Saul Snyder
Female Coach of the Year: Megan Lowery Haber
Male Pro of the Year: Woody Yocom
Women’s Sportsmanship: Colleen Clery Ferrell
Men’s Sportsmanship: Roberto Ancira
Family: The Schiller Family
Community Service: Anne Podney
Tournament of Year: SES Center Pro-Am
Club of the Year: La Jolla Tennis Club
A special Tennis Official award will be presented to Ralph Anderson.
C. Multicultural Participation: Committee is planning some activities at local schools for Martin Luther King holiday.
D. District Tournament: Ralph Anderson will be head referee and Jeff Anderson tournament director for the 81st District Championships tournament in 2009.
E. Rankings: Updates have been made to the rolling list and suggested seeding list.
F. Community Tennis: No report.
G. Nominations: Brenda Phillips’ name was submitted but still needs to be reviewed. Newly elected board member Tiffany Worst will work with the tournament and tournament evaluation committees. There are still three additional openings for directors.
H. Tournament Evaluation: No major issues. Complaint submitted to committee regarding La Costa tournament has been addressed.
I. Hall of Fame: There are several members of the selection committee whose terms have expired. Discussion of extending terms followed with no motion to accept or deny term limits. Bill Kellogg was recognized for funding the filming of the 2008 Hall of Fame ceremony and film will be made available at the 2009 event.
VI. OLD BUSINESS: Updated contacts list, committee list and 2009 meeting schedule will be available after Jan. 1, 2009.
VII. NEW BUSINESS: It was MSP to accept a 5% salary increase and $500 bonus for District secretary Jeff Anderson.
VIII. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.
