MINUTES OF SDDTA GENERAL MEETING, JUNE 14, 2011
Next meeting is a General Meeting, August 9, 2011 at 7:00pm, BTC Clubhouse
I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Geoff Griffin. Members present were: Mike Bauer, Cassondra Caesar, Fred Circo, Virginia Glass, Geoff Griffin, Mary Lou Harris, Fran Hunter, M.A. Hillier, Carol Jory, Steve Kappes, Roz King, Becky Kuba, Angel Lopez, Fran McCloskey, Tony Perez, Joaquin Picazo, Anne Podney, Bill Rennie, Roylee York.
II. MINUTES: It was MSP to accept the minutes of the Executive meeting April 12, 2011.
III. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Geoff reported the District has received many Thank You notes from recipients of grants. He also reported on some changes to 10 and Under tennis.
IV. TREASURER’S REPORT: Steve Kappes reported we are on solid financial ground and on budget. The report was MSP.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:

c. Awards: No report
d. By Laws: No report
e. Community Programs: Shelley Susman was unable to attend the meeting but submitted a report, which was read by the President.
f. Grievance: No report
g. Facilities: No report
h. Finance/Budget: No report
i. Grant: No report
j. Hall of Fame: The SCTA sent in invitation to attend their annual SCTA Hall of Fame dinner on August 5th in Los Angeles. Steve Kappes indicated he would like to attend, the other to be determined. It was MSP that we would send two people representing the SDDTA.
k. Memberships: No report
l. Diversity and Inclusion: No report
m. Newsletter: No report
n. Rankings: Roz King discussed the new USTA ranking rules and adults no longer using the ITF rules.
o. Sanctions/Scheduling: No report
p. Tennis Fest: Bill Rennie thanked all the volunteers and pros that made this the largest Tennis Fest with over 1000 participants. Committee is looking to expand next year to corporations and their employees to reach new players. Also considering a benefactor. Overall a great event this year.
q. Tournament: Tony Perez reported the District Tournament is on track. Entry information will go out with the District newsletter.
Tournament Evaluation: Roz reported the Rancho Bernardo tournament was evaluated and went well. The Barnes Clay Court tournament was also evaluated with positive feedback.
r. Umpires Liaison: A special request from Bill Kellogg has been received for the ITF tournament in February 2012 asking the umpires association to adjust their rates for this tournament as seven sites will be used. No resolution at this time.
s. USPTA Liaison: No report
t. Leagues: No report
u. Wheelchair: Joaquin Picazo reported on the 13th Annual Hendrickson Wheelchair Tennis Classic and presented the District with a plaque in appreciation of the District’s support.
v. Yearbook: No report
w. YTSD Liaison: No report
VI. OLD BUSINESS: Geoff Griffin reported he had used the Zozi system for classes and were successful. He has suggested Zozi be used for recruiting new adult players. It was MSP to support a maximum of four sites for a five week program for new players at $100 per site using the Zozi system. Sites approved so far are Balboa Tennis Club is one site and Geoff is looking for other sites around the county.
VII. NEW BUSINESS: Steve Kappes spoke about the USTA Military Outreach program. They are trying to impact all aspects of the military. Steve is very proud the USTA is using our San Diego program as a model throughout the country to encourage tennis in the military. Many events are scheduled locally to reach new players. He also mentioned the Adopt a Unit Care packages and Celebrate Our Hero’s event at the Mercury Insurance Open in August. There was a motion to add Military Outreach as a committee. Steve volunteered as chairperson and asked others to volunteer as well. It was MSP.
VIII. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm
