MINUTES OF SDDTA GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2011

             Next meeting is an Executive meeting Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 7:00pm, BTC Clubhouse

 

I.                   CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Geoff Griffin. Members present were: Mike Bauer, Fred Circo, Andrew Cretella, Virginia Glass, Geoff Griffin, Mary Lou Harris, Fran Hunter, Carol Jory, Steve Kappes, Sandie Kindred, Roz King, Angel Lopez, Joaquin Picazo, Anne Podney, Anne Russ, Suella Steel, Juan Villanueva, Roylee B. York.

 

II.                MINUTES: MSP to accept the minutes of Jan. 14, 2011.

 

III.             PRESIDENTS REPORT: Geoff Griffin introduced and welcomed our two new board members Joaquin Picazo and Roylee B. York.

 

IV.              TREASURER’S REPORT: Steve Kappes reported we have a strong financial position and the financial committee proposed the budget for 2011. The budget was approved, MSP.

 

V.                 COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

A.        Activities: No report.

B.         Community Program: Sandie Kindred reported a Family Tennis Day is scheduled for Sunday, March 13^th at the East County Community Tennis Association at Helix HS.

C.         Facilities: No report.

D.        Grant: No report.

E.         Hall of Fame: Mike Bauer said the first committee meeting will be March 18^th.

F.          Diversity and Inclusion: No report.

G.        Nominations: No report.

H.        Sanctions & Scheduling: No report.

I.           Tennis Fest: The event will be on Sunday, May 1^st. The committee would like to gear toward more new players this year.

J.           Tournament Evaluation: The committee met and decided to evaluate eight tournaments this year. Roz King evaluated the Paul Buskey tournament. Participation was up and all went well.

K.        Umpires Liaison: Fred Circo reported the death of Jay Wagner.

L.         Wheelchair: Joaquin Picazo reported the Barnes Tennis Center will host another wheelchair tournament. MSP to give $500 to the Barnes Wheelchair tournament and any funds not used for the tournament will go toward the wheelchair programs at Barnes.

 

VI.              OLD BUSINESS: It was reported that the committee is still working on gathering information for the Best Tennis Town video even though the USTA is not sponsoring this in 2011.

 

VII.     ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm.
