
MINUTES OF SDDTA EXECUTIVE MEETING, November 8, 2011
Next meeting is a General meeting on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 7:00pm, BTC Clubhouse
I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by 1st Vice President Lesley Waite. President Geoff Griffin, Ben Press, Virginia Glass and Larry Belinsky were not able to attend. Members present were: Mike Bauer, Fran Wakefield-Hunter, Carol Jory, Steve Kappes, Roz King, Jim Lackritz, Anne Podney, and Lesley Waite.
II. MINUTES: It was MSP to accept minutes of general meeting of October 2011 with correction that 5300 yearbooks will be distributed.
III. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Lesley reported that Geoff Griffin is still using Zozi online and will continue hoping more clubs will start using their services to recruit adult players.
IV. TREASURER’S REPORT: Steve Kappes reported that all transactions recommended by Committee in October meeting have been completed with Ameritrade and our cash position is strong. Balance Sheet & Profit and Loss statements were distributed to attendees. We are still waiting on remaining grant funds from SCTA. Line item 3330 Surcharge Share to YTSD represents two years expense, and 6020 Community Grant funds may not be available this year. The report was MSP.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
a. Nominations: Letters will go out to board members who have not met attendance requirements for the year.
b. Activities: Annual dinner is scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2012 at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Former SC Coach Dick Leach is scheduled to speak and event planning is on track.
c. Awards: N/A
d. Bylaws: N/A
e. Community Programs: N/A
f. Grievance: N/A
g. Facilities: N/A
h. Finance/budget: N/A
i. Grant: N/A
j. Hall of Fame: Line Item 6480 was over budget due to additional rental and catering expenses, with an increase from 100 to 150 attendees this year.
k. Memberships: N/A
l. Military Outreach: Steve Kappes reported that the military outreach presentation he gave at the SCTA's Community Tennis Development Workshop in Indian Wells on Oct 23rd was a big success. Approximately 30 community tennis leaders from across Southern California attended, along with several SCTA staff members. Steve represented the District and helped run a kick-off event, a new Wounded Warrior Tennis Program at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio that is modeled on the District's Wounded Warrior Tennis Program. The District has been selected to receive a $15,000 grant from the US Olympic Committee to expand the District's Wounded Warrior Tennis Program. This will include running a three day tennis camp at Balboa Tennis Club for Wounded Warriors from San Diego and across the country.

n. Newsletter: Newsletters have gone out and included invitation to annual dinner.
o. Rankings: N/A
p. Sanctions/Scheduling: A criteria for tournament directors was presented and a suggestion was made to require all tournament directors to sign an agreement as an understanding of responsibilities required for tournament director position. Also suggestion was made to look into possibilities of Tournament Directors Workshop. More to follow at meeting in December.
q. Tennis Fest: N/A
r. Tournament: A motion tabled at the Oct. meeting will be discussed at the December meeting.
s. Tournament Evaluation: Roz reported the committee has evaluated several tournaments this year. A suggestion was made to expand the evaluation to include additional criteria in evaluating tournaments next year.
t. Umpires Liaison: N/A
u. USPTA Liaison: Steve Kappas said the dinner and a workshop is coming soon.
v. Leagues: N/A
w. Wheelchair: N/A
x. Yearbook: Yearbooks are coming along and a recommendation was made to distribute yearbooks at table settings rather than at the end of the evening. MSP.
y. YTSD Liaison: A reminder that YTSD Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Nov 12th.
