·        Geoff reported that during his USPTA meeting last month there was discussion regarding programs for College students. 300,000 high school players go to college and there have been few programs to keep them playing tennis. There was much discussion regarding various possible programs to keep young people playing tennis, particularly during college when not on tennis scholarships. Discussion of various formats to use, programs developed in Northern Cal, and discussion of the Tennis on Campus programs developed by SCTA’s Linda Milan is active in for local college programs.

·        Geoff reported that the Tournament Directors workshop was well attended. He thanked Anne for all the work she and the folks with the junior program did as it meant most of the participants were already at the workshop when the Adult section was presented.

·        SCTA Executive Meeting: Geoff was not able to attend. Lesley has agreed to attend the next meeting for Geoff on Oct. 29th. Some of the important issues Geoff reports from the minutes are: There will be USTA cuts to funding in Sections, Inside Tennis can no longer offer free mailings but SCTA is in negotiations with them. The Countrywide Tournament was not as bad as predicted. Although advanced sales were down, daily ticket sales were up. They are still looking for a sponsor for the Tournament for 2009.

IV.              TREASURER’S REPORT: During the Treasurer’s report there was a long discussion regarding tournament fees and expenses being down this year for the District Tournament.  There were many suggestions regarding the cause and what the plan of action should be going forward to grow the tournament. Anne suggested that we follow through with the suggestion from the last meeting that the data be collected for the 2008 tournaments and see if there is a pattern. As a part of the treasurer’s report, Mike requested that the minutes reflect that the current status of all investments was reviewed with the Board.
