Once again this year the San Diego District Tennis Association along with Angel Lopez awarded four scholarships to student-athletes, male and female, who reside in San Diego County. The SDDTA awarded (2) $500 scholarships and Angel Lopez (2) $500 scholarships. Prospective candidates for these scholarships included current community college or four year college players, Tennis-On-Campus team players and graduating high school seniors. The purpose of these scholarships is to help deserving collegiate tennis players to continue to pursue their educational and athletic goals at a college of their choice. The general criteria for the scholarship are: participation in tennis, academics, and community service. In addition, the SDDTA is looking for student-athletes who display qualities such as good sportsmanship, hard work, and leadership on their team and in the community.
ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
Every January the District holds it's annual awards dinner and banquet at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club to honor those individuals, clubs and tournaments that made a significant contribution to San Diego tennis throughout the year.
WOUNDED WARRIOR TENNIS PROGRAMS
Our Wounded Warrior Tennis Program uses tennis as a means of rehabilitation for service members and veterans who have become wounded, ill, or injured. It is aligned with Naval Medical Center San Diego's Wounded, Ill, and Injured Wellness Program, which is "designed to meet the physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of injured troops. Participation in activities provides the tools needed to reintegrate back into the community, enhance their quality of life, and promote living a fit and healthy lifestyle."
