The City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department has engaged an independent research firm to assess how well the Parks & Rec programs, services, and facilities are meeting the needs of the diverse communities of San Diego. This is an excellent opportunity to make your voice heard and support the need of more public tennis courts.
Until February 28, San Diego tennis lovers can advocate for tennis in the parks by answering a city-wide Community Recreation Needs Assessment Survey. It's a short survey accessible at https://www.sandiego.gov/parksurvey
Question 18 allows for additional comments. In addition to your own comments, please consider copying all or part of the following message endorsed by the San Diego District Tennis Association:
SAN DIEGO NEEDS MORE PUBLIC TENNIS COURT AVAILABILITY
We want more joint use agreements between the park system and schools to re-open school tennis courts for public access.
We want public tennis courts to be preserved for tennis use rather than be converted or used for pickleball.
We want more public tennis courts built where they are scarce despite high demand, such as in North County parks.
Your feedback will help the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department better understand recreation program desires within each community to serve you more effectively. All responses will be reported in aggregate, and you will not be individually identified. This is your chance to help shape a more inclusive and equitable Parks and Recreation system that reflects the needs of all communities. Again, the deadline to complete the survey is February 28, 2026 which you can fill out here: https://www.sandiego.gov/parksurvey
