Inaugural Green Dot Tennis Tournament for Adult Beginners
On September 7th, coinciding with the finals of the San Diego County Championships, the San Diego District Tennis Association hosted a compass-draw tournament utilizing "green dot" balls perfect for adult beginner tennis players who are developing their skills!
"Having 48 players come out for a brand‑new tournament for adult beginners was incredible and memorable" said tournament director Aaron Sheinbein. Everyone gained match experience in a tournament setting through level-based play, established their World Tennis Number (WTN) rating, and got an opportunity to see their individual results in the tournament bracket. Prizes were awarded to the top finishers in singles and doubles.
Each player/team got to play four matches, with the format for each match being the best of seven total games, no-ad scoring. The match ended when the set score reached 4-3, 5-2, 6-1, or 7-0. With no-ad scoring, when the game score becomes deuce (40-40) then the receiver chooses which side of the court (deuce/left or ad/right) they would like to receive the serve from.
"The weather was exceptionally hot and yet the players still battled through with competitive spirit and great sportsmanship. In each of the 64 matches played there were so many wonderful and fun points made by everyone. It was also great to see many of the participants exchange numbers as they made new tennis friends too," said Sheinbein.
